A summer of song (mostly)

So, as Edinburgh starts to loom, a few other opportunities have popped up along the way to it. Next week I shall be workshopping a  new musical called But First This, Radio 4 The Musical, whihc showcases at The Leicester Square Theatre on Friday July 13th. Then it’s up to Yorkshire for Story Book with Slung Low on July 28th (squeezing the intensive pre-Edinburgh Showstopper! practice AND two gigs with The School of Night – Soho Theatre July 20/21 – into the middle somewhere); and finally a character who first emerged as an in-joke for the Stoppers (God, that bodes well), an old-fashioned, charming but loud and voluble rep actor known as The Northbound Bore, makes his stage debut again at Leicester Square in Newborn Comedy on July 30th. Summer News!!

So, my first tentative steps from ABBA Land start with me doing Showstopper! on June 3rd & 17th & July 1st at Udderbelly, South Bank, London -see https://www.underbelly.co.uk/showstopper-the-improvised-musical-london for details (Lucy is also on on June 3rd, and April 22nd). I’m in a beautiful silver caravan outside the National Theatre on June 6th and 7th, The Knowledge Emporium, with Slung Low; not a play, but a beautiful experience of sharing thoughts and meeting new people. The School of Night opens The International Student Drama Festival on June 22nd, and plays Soho Theatre July 19-23rd – I’ll be doing the last two shows there. I’m in Yorkshire for Slung Low again  after that, making and performing in Story Book at Pickering...

Currently as well as ABBA, I’m busy running workshops for National Theatre Learning and Millennium Performing Arts, and in a few weeks will finally be filming the next short film in the Project 7 series, following Mr.Gibson – see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFh0yowg17o if you haven’t caught that one yet. News

I am currently in the middle of a year’s contract on the West End production of Mamma Mia! Thus far I’ve stayed sane and enjoyed myself, and the opportunity of going back regularly to my wonderful singing teacher, Nettie Battam, is a joy. Showstopper! still rolls on and will be back in London in April, as well as gigs in Ireland, Henley and then our fifth Edinburgh Festival; I am coming back to the show in June. And in the same month, The School of Night will be performing at the opening night of The International Student Drama Festival in Sheffield. Exciting times!
